History

Our Art is Ed Parker’s “AMERICAN KENPO” as taught by Professor Skip Hancock, personal student of the late Senior Grand Master Ed Parker.

American Kenpo is a self-defense system that incorporates hand strikes, kicking, submission grappling and weapons with a realistic approach to defending yourself in today’s world.

Frank Pollara received his black belt along with Art Copple in Ed Parker’s American Kenpo in 1987.

Soon after receiving their black belt Frank & Art traveled with Ed Parker and a group of martial artist’s to Sidney Australia putting on demonstrations and doing promotional events.

In 1987, Frank along with Art Copple opened Eastgate Kenpo Karate in Springfield Oregon.

We have continued our training with Skip Hancock, a student of Ed Parker’s and the founder of the Kenpo 2000 organization.

Through Skip Hancock Frank Pollara & Art Copple have earned a 6th degree Black Belt.

Eastgate Kenpo Karate has been teaching practical Self-Defense for Men, Women and Children since 1987!
